About Brunel University

Brunel is a British University which has its roots in the 1960's when it was initially called the Acton Technical College. It used to be the institution that was dedicated to the education of Chartered Engineers and supplied craftsmen and technicians at the Brunel College of Technology.

After 1961 the College was regarded as an institute for advanced Technology and thereafter it expanded itself, and was officially given university status in 1966. After much relocation and merging the University now boasts a student body of over 12,000, and is well-known for its engineering, science and technology programs but also offers a variety of other programs such as Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

However the university is most sought-after for its Sciences, and most of the research conducted by the university is based around environmental science and sports sciences.

Yet in the recent past the University has been met with controversy as its approach to education has become commercialized, and its academic body has been unstable. Yet it has reorganized itself and now concentrates on Engineering and the likes.

The student facilities are also quite exceptional with an extensive e-collection of books, journals and access to various international databases. The campus is wi-fi equipped.

Other activities include a thriving arts centre which organizes events, recitals, and free artistic and musical classes. The University has refurbished its existing halls in a £250 million programme last year, and now boasts 34 self-catering halls which makes the total amount of rooms 4,549 and these range from studio flats to co-habiting self-contained apartments. If one is particular about rankings Brunel lies within the top 50th in most Good University guides usually in the 40's league. It's popularity in recent years has decreased and this is mainly owing to a change in ranking methods.
