About Victoria and Albert Museum

Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), named in honor of Prince Albert and Queen Victoria, was first established in 1852 at Marlborough House. However since 1857, it is situated at the current site in Cromwell Gardens, South Kensington, London neighboring the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum. This area in South Kensington is called the “Albertopolis”, which is dedicated to scientific, cultural and historical educational significance.

Some famous artifacts worth mentioning are the desk of Henry VIII, the Great Bed of Ware, Michelangelo`s David sculpture, Egyptian Ceramic Art and the like. The specialty is that, the museum's building itself shows different architectural styles and art belonging to different eras of England civilization. The Sheepshanks Gallery (the first part of the museum built), the Turner and Vernon Galleries, the North and South Courts, the Secretariat Wing on the northern side and majority of the building belong to the Victorian era.. In the 1990s some galleries including Iron work, Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Chinese, and the main glass were redesigned and further enhanced with recreation of the Victorian décor. The central garden of the museum was redesigned in 2005 with a combination of both historical and modern characteristics.

The museum opening hours are from 10.00 am to 5.45 pm daily and some galleries from 10.00 am to 10.00 pm on Fridays. The tickets can be booked through the telephone, V&A website or purchased in person at full, concessionary prices or for free.

It certainly is a heavenly treat awaiting the historic and culture lovers; not to mention the thrill and inspiration of witnessing the advancement of world civilizations throughout history!
